New season, new attitudes

Letter to the Editor

Spring is in the air! This past week marked the start of spring! I love this time of year as it is a time for rebirth and growth.

The farmers are getting out into their fields ready to plant. The cattlemen have been welcoming new livestock. All are itching to get into the garden.

This week marked some fun things happening in our small town and school. We sent a group of kids off to state speech, many students attended interscholastic competitions and track started!

Meadowlark Gallery has reopened and has been filled with many talents of the youth.

The alumni basketball tournament was held with another good showing of young and “older” playing a few games to show support for the game. Come Monday, there may be a few sore muscles, but, great memories will take place.

A group of people in our community has been working hard on one of the funniest plays I’ve seen in a long time. The Perkins County Pool Committee has put lots of hours working on the dinner theatre in hopes of something wonderful for our community.

One thing I’ve noticed this past week is that many people have put lots of time and talent into something they believe in. People came together to help out with kindness and hard work.

I had the pleasure of helping to serve at the dinner theatre. I brought back my waitressing skills and thoroughly enjoyed being a server. Not one person complained or griped as we served them with joyful hearts. People were kind, appreciative, smiled, relaxed, visited, laughed and I feel truly enjoyed the evening. As a matter of fact, I saw this in events all week long!

Maybe the warm weather and sunshine has helped us out with new attitudes. Whatever it was, it was refreshing!

We might not all agree on projects or issues that are taking place in our community, but instead of bashing the ideas and hard work of others, we need to open our minds, listen to ideas and respect what these people are doing. A lot of people are working hard to make our community better on many levels.

I encourage you to approach those serving on committees or working on projects and ask questions. These people want you to ask questions. Don’t assume anything. Be informed, not misled!

Spring is in the air people, a time for rebirth and growth. Get out there and breath! Free your mind and the rest will follow.
