Pitchin With Pritch: Looks like some falls sports a go

Going back to school is getting pretty close and hopefully nothing will interfere with that. Since last March, the normal has been blown all to bits.

Even though there are plans in place, nothing says that they might have to be changed.

The Covid-19 pandemic has touched many lives and just about everything that I would never ever think would change in my lifetime.

My life starting as a junior high student always had sports somewhere close to the top of my likes in my Like and Dislike list.

They have always been there and still are and this last four or five months have shown me that I can live pretty much with no sports being played. It wasn’t too bad for a while when they were running re-runs of games, but that got old after just a little bit.

The good thing about re-runs of football and basketball on the college level is that you can google the game and see who won and if my favorite team didn’t win, I didn’t have watch it.

Then as the longest summer in history, March until the present, came, I began to worry that maybe there wasn’t going to be anything this fall because of Covid-19. In the last few days however, it appears that there will be an attempt by some college leagues (Big 10 not included!) and some high schools to play some kind of schedule.

On the local level, football and volleyball practice started this week.

The Husker football schedule was released this past week but it was all for naught.

On Tuesday, the Big 10 announced the league was cancelling all fall sports, moving them instead to spring.

On the local level, all games that were contracted will be played.

You can expect some things in the protocol required by the NSAA. Just a quick list of things to expect for the football games.

This list may include but it is not limited to the following:

• Restricting attendance/seating areas.

• Separate points of entry for home and visitor teams/spectators.

• No concessions stand or separate/multiple concession stands for home and visitor spectators.

•Encouraging/ requiring spectators to wear face coverings.

• Implementing diligent and effective cleaning and disinfecting of frequently touched objects and surfaces.

There are some more suggestions that the NSAA are asking schools to do and I am sure that each school is responsible for making them known to their spectators and both schools are expected to comply with the rules of the home school.

I just hope you can still block and tackle, but at least there will be players on the field and people in the stands.
