Pitchin with Pritch: Seven Super Bowl rings for Brady

The Super Bowl is over and like so many before for it, what looked like a pretty good game on paper was just that, good on paper.

If you were a Buccaneers fan, it was a great game. If you were a Chiefs fan, it was the “maybe next year,” thought that ran through your mind.

I have to admit that I would have liked to see the Chiefs win back-to-back Super Bowls but at least on that Sunday, they were not the best team on the field by any sense of the imagination.

Tom Brady may have cemented his claim to Greatest of all Time as he picked up his seventh ring in Super Bowl play.

The Buccaneers were the best team on both sides of the ball. Their defense kept the Chiefs from scoring a touchdown in the 31-9 win.

I didn’t think that would happen because Patrick Mahomes is a pretty darn good quarterback himself and the Buccaneers defense was all over him for the entire game.

Mahomes stats were not all that bad as he 26/49 passing, picking up 270 yards but no touchdowns and he threw two interceptions.

Brady was 21/29 for 201 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions. Brady had some help on offense with an old teammate from his New England days in Rob Gronkowski, who had six catches for 67 yards and two touchdowns.

Granted, Kansas City had some players hurt but the Buccaneers defense out-powered the Chiefs offense.

Plus, Kansas City had so many penalties and those two things were too much for the Chiefs to overcome.

What looked like another outstanding season for the Chiefs, ended up not ending in a Super Bowl victory.

Husker bball struggles

Nebraska men’s basketball team is struggling a little again this year.

When it comes to Big 10 games, the term struggling a little is an understatement. As of right now, the Big Red has lost 24 straight Big 10 games and are positioned right at the bottom of the conference standings.

Starting last week with Minnesota in a game they lost 79-61, Nebraska played their first of five games in nine days.

They were mandated to take Tuesday off for some reason so they didn’t have any practice until the shoot around today (Wednesday) the day of the Wisconsin game to get ready.

Then on Friday, they host Illinois and then travel on Sunday for their fifth game.

Blame Covid-19 or the Big 10 schedule makers or whatever, but that is tough row to hoe with this team.

In the Minnesota game, the Huskers also played without their leading scorer, Teddy Allen. He was benched by Coach Hoiberg for what the Big Ten Network called a “failure to meet internal expectations.”

Allen averages 17.2 points per game and might have made a difference in the 18- point loss to Minnesota.

At some time in a game, the Huskers seem to suffer long periods of time where they don’t score. Tough to win in any conference when that happens.
