A poem in remembrance
REMEMBER:
God has blessed America - the Land of the Free -
with men and women who serve on land, air, and sea
Who lace up their boots and put their helmets on
Then defend our country from dusk until dawn...
And beyond!
Would we take their place amid flames and destruction
After weeks of basic training and months of instruction
In preparation for the imminent next emergency
To protect and serve against any insurgency?
The Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key
Tells of our flag flying high for all to see.
A red, white, and blue symbol that so many crave
“O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
Let us honor the ones who died for our nation
And all who serve without hesitation
Away from their homes, whatever the duration.
They’re our heroes in times of war on “foreign shores”
“Just doing their job” and, oh, so much more.
Is “Thank You” enough to convey our appreciation
For their sacrifice, their love, and fierce determination?
As we celebrate and honor all who have died;
Many just “youngsters” - old age denied -
Let us never forget that respect is their due
For sacrificing so much for me and for you.
God bless America....and all who serve this great land!!
