Reader agrees with previous letter to editor

I agree with Kathryn Fowler’s letter to the editor expressing that the January 6 hearings are “critical for our nation,” contrary to the previous editorial of the Tribune-Sentinel. The Tribune editor is an excellent reporter; I have praised numerous of her local journalism stories. However, I think the editorial oversimplified the investigation, suggesting that one party and “a few RINO Republicans are showboating” in D.C. I wish to avoid jumping to conclusions.

When someone tends to mislead others, it is time to speak up. Thanks, Kathy.

First, Liz Cheney, a member of the committee, may be classified as a RINO, “Republican in Name Only,” but she votes with Republicans over 90 percent of the time. Secondly, in recent days, numerous former staff members of the former president, all Republicans, testified that they opposed the former president’s proposals upholding the Constitution and rule of law.

I like to thank volunteers working at election polling places, because they are important to our democracy. However, in many parts of the nation, such volunteers of both parties have been harassed, even with death threats, for doing their job. This includes secretaries of state. This is reckless and ridiculous.

History has indicated that when a leader in power promotes conspiracy theories and convinces others to change the rules, such as certification of electors and election laws, that democracy can fail in a hurry. Please ponder that for a while. I pray that we learn some lessons from the January 6 Committee.
