Standing at the crossroads

I don’t know about you, but I have had my share of crossroads in my life. Some good and some bad. But to be honest with you, I usually don’t like it when my life is at a crossroads.

Years ago, I came across a verse that for me, answered a lot of my questions about what God wants us to do when we are at the crossroads of life.

Jeremiah 6:16 says, “This is what the Lord says: stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, “We will not walk in it.”

First, God asks us to STAND. If we sit down at a literal crossroad we will get run over. It’s the same way when we are at a crossroads in our life. We must choose to stand.

Isaiah 7:9b says, “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.” We need to remember to not let our faith waver, but stand firm in what we have been taught in God’s Word.

Secondly, Jeremiah tells us to LOOK. We need to have our eyes open at the crossroads to see which direction to go. If we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and look to Him for direction, we will make it.

Hebrews 12:2 says, “Fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and protector of our faith.” We must not let others or the culture distract us from fixing our eyes on Jesus. “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face….”

Thirdly, Jeremiah mentions that we must ASK for the ancient and good paths. In other words, seek good, Godly counsel from people who have been down some of these roads before.

We must first talk to our heavenly father and ask Him for wisdom to make the right choice. Don’t let pride get in the way of asking for guidance. Asking is humbling ourselves and acknowledging that we don’t have all the answers.

Lastly, we must WALK. Sooner or later we need to take action and move in a certain direction, prayerfully a direction that you feel the Lord has led you in.

Isaiah 30:21 tells us, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice saying, “This is the way, walk in it.”

Walk in confidence knowing that when we follow God’s plan at the crossroads of life, that it will result in finding rest for our souls.

The question is, do we want to walk in His plan or our own?
