Supporting continued growth

Letter to the Editor

I moved to Grant on July, 2nd 2014 with my family in our RV.  I had just started a new job and Grant was centrally located.  I would be covering several facilities, so I saw it as a starting point, but was going to look around for a landing place.  We wanted a place with good opportunities for our kids and a safe community to live in.  We were wowed by the 4th of July celebration and how welcoming the people were.

As we looked around we quickly found how fortunate we were to start with Grant.  It had good schools, clean streets, safe neighborhoods, and kids riding bikes all over town.  I remember riding my bike around town as a kid but it was something that was completely lost when we lived in the big city.  Grant won our hearts and we fell in love with it.  Even as my business has grown and I have added more towns, Grant is still where we choose to call home.

I’m honored by the endorsement of our current Mayor Lisa Schimdt, and all the things that we have been able to get done as a City Council under her leadership. We have a strong City Council that truly cares about our wonderful town.  I am asking for your support not just for myself as Mayor but also for the two City Council members running for re-election Andrea Brueggeman and Tierney Petersen.  I have sat along side them in meetings and seen their decisions. They truly care and want the best for Grant.

We have some challenges ahead, but we are ready to answer the call.  We are getting a new subdivision in Grant for the first time in over 50 years.  As someone that moved here I understand the difficulty of finding housing here in town, I also understand that it makes it harder for business owners to recruit.  Growing housing grows business and grows more opportunities for the community.   As we grow I want to preserve the great things about our town. Fifty years from now I still want Grant to be a place that is welcoming, with good schools, and kids riding their bikes around our safe community.
