Williams best candidate for Board of Regents

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

As a landowner in Chase and Perkins County, there are two things that I think are critically important to our state’s economic vitality. First, agriculture is the backbone of our state. Agriculture, both crops and livestock industries, provide the tax revenue, and the sheer economic engine for our rural communities to survive. Schools in rural communities, trade schools, community colleges, and our own Land Grant University are the bedrock for our next generation. That brings me to the other critical issue for our future, and that is our Land Grant College, The university of Nebraska, that includes Curtis, Kearney, along with Omaha, and the Med Center and the flagship campus in Lincoln.

I believe Matt Williams, candidate for Board of Regents, can best represent these two critical issues. He has both of these issues front and center in his willingness to serve our state. His banking experience as Chairman of the Flatwater Bank in Gothenburg, his leadership as Chairman of the American Bankers Association in 2012-13, his service in the State Legislature, a Trustee of the University of Nebraska Foundation and as a past Chairman of the State Chamber of Commerce not to mention his passion for Nebraska Agriculture, should merit our support for him to serve on the Board of Regents. He received both his undergraduate and law degree from the University of Nebraska. There is no one more qualified to serve this region of Nebraska on the Board of Regents.

Respectfully,

Don Hutchens
