Bishop named October Senior of the Month
Pinnacle Bank has selected Perkins County senior Hannah Bishop as the October Senior of the Month, recognizing her commitment to leadership, academics, and community service.
Bishop has demonstrated a strong work ethic throughout high school, holding jobs as a lifeguard, babysitter, and house cleaner. She said her time as a lifeguard taught her how much responsibility comes with ensuring the safety of others, and how clear communication is essential whether enforcing rules or staying calm in emergencies. Babysitting strengthened her patience while house cleaning showed her the value of attention to detail and pride in quality work.
After graduation, Bishop plans to pursue a career in diagnostic medical imaging. She intends to earn an associate degree at a community college before transferring to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Kansas City Medical Center, or a four-year university offering a bachelor’s program in diagnostic imaging.
Bishop said her most meaningful accomplishment at Perkins County High School has been growing into a confident leader. She has served as an FFA officer, class officer, and student council officer. “It shows how much I have grown, not just as a student but as a person,” she said.
Relationships built with classmates, teammates, and teachers have defined her school experience. Bishop said their support has made each year impactful both in and out of the classroom. “It is the people and memories we created together that have impacted me the most,” she said.
Her involvement in school activities is extensive. She participated in One-Act Play in grades nine and ten, speech in grades nine and ten, FFA all four years, and National Honor Society as a senior. She competed in volleyball, basketball, and track through her junior year, and joined cross country as a senior.
Bishop’s achievements include second place at district One-Act as a freshman and fourth as a sophomore. In speech, she was a state qualifier in OID as a freshman and district champion and state qualifier in duet and NOID as a sophomore. Within FFA, she has been a state qualifier in agri-science, a junior officer vice president as a sophomore, historian as a junior, state qualifier in nursery and landscape, state qualifier in parliamentary procedure, and is currently treasurer.
In athletics, Bishop was a varsity volleyball starter as a freshman and sophomore. In basketball, she served as JV captain as a freshman and became a varsity starter as a junior. She earned a 5,000-shot club finish in fourth grade and received the NCA academic excellence award her freshman through junior years. She helped the 4x800 meter relay to a fourth-place district finish in track and logged 127 miles in cross country’s summer running club.
Academically, Bishop has earned multiple Honor Roll distinctions, including All-A Honor Roll her freshman through junior years and AB Honor Roll during her sophomore and junior years. She was inducted into National Honor Society and currently serves as student council vice president.
Her impact extends beyond school activities. She participated in Teammates mentoring in grades nine and ten, logged 18 tutoring service hours as a junior, joined FCA as a junior and senior, and taught swimming lessons from sophomore year through senior year. She also earned lifeguard, CPR, and first-aid certifications and has helped more than 30 children achieve swimming milestones, often by request from local families.
Bishop said growing up in a close-knit community shaped her values and encouraged her to give back. She has volunteered through school clubs and community events, including the county fair. “A strong community is built on kindness, involvement, and a desire to serve,” she said.
For being selected Senior of the Month, Bishop’s picture will hang in the lobby of Pinnacle Bank in Grant and she will be eligible for a scholarship awarded at the end of the school year.
The Student of the Month and scholarship program are sponsored jointly by community members and Pinnacle Bank in Grant.
