Briggs is November’s Senior of Month

Chosen as November’s Senior of the Month is Alyssa Briggs of Grant, daughter of Chod Briggs.

Alyssa has been active at Perkins County High School as well as the community throughout her high school career.

She has been a member of the science club, cross country team, choir and student council.

Alyssa has also been named to the academic honor roll, academic all-state cross country and received an honorable mention at the Ogallala art show and a superior at SPVA music.

She has been a member of a youth group and has volunteered at the Children’s Hospital in Colorado.

She was nominated to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders her junior and senior years.

Starting at age 15, Alyssa has held several jobs, including at Hugs-N-Teddy Bears Daycare, Route 61 Roller Dome and Jessen Unlimited. Through her employment, she has gained independence, she said. “Attending school, working two jobs and balancing social life is chaotic sometimes, but it has taught me to stay grounded, budget and pursue my dreams.”

Alyssa has maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average during high school, and has found that maintaining high grades has created more opportunities for her in scholarships and in her college search.

Alyssa places great importance on the school environment she experienced in Perkins County, and attributes much of her success to the staff and students. “My peers are constantly offering to support and assist others, whether in the classroom or an extracurricular activity, she said. “The environment my school has provided for everyone is very important to me and will be something I treasure for the rest of my life.” 

Following graduation, Alyssa plans to study criminal justice at Mid-Plains Community College, living on campus and working part-time. 

She plans to later transfer to the University of Nebraska at Kearney and finish a bachelor’s degree, eventually becoming a crime scene investigator and forensic analyst.
