Busick earns December Senior of the Month title
Kenna Busick was named December’s Pinnacle Bank Perkins County Senior of the Month. Busick is the daughter of Missy and Jared Potts of Grant, Nebraska.
Busick participated in a number of activities at Perkins County High School. She played Volleyball all four years of highschool and plans to do the same with Track. Busick also participated in Speech, Student Council, National Honors Society, and FFA. Because of these activities, Busick has accomplished a lot. To name a few, she was a State FFA Qualifier in Agriscience, placed 11th in the Class C Open 800 at State Track, and holds the school record in the 1600 meter relay, 3200 meter relay, and 800 meter race. Busic claims that her most rewarding achievement is holding the record for the 800 meter race. “I am most proud of my experience at State Track during my sophomore year. I ended my season strong by breaking the school record in the 800. This moment was especially rewarding to me because when I was running, I thought it was going to be a bad time. So, proving to myself and my coaches that I could do it was my most rewarding moment.”
When she’s not in the classroom or playing sports, Busick is a part of the Grant E-Free Church, the Perkins County Community Foundation, and also Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
She has also worked for her fathers concrete business and babysat. Through her jobs she’s learned important lessons to prepare her for her future. “When I was a freshman, over the summer, I worked for my father. He owns multiple businesses, but I specifically helped with his concrete business. During my sophomore and junior years, over the summer, I babysat for the Kosmicki family… I have learned from both working for my dad and babysitting that commitment is key. When you have a job, you are expected to be responsible and reliable. I am grateful for my job experiences that have taught me lessons that will help me sustain future jobs,” said Busick
Busick is unsure what university she would like to attend after highschool but wants to major in exercise science and nutritional science. “I plan on attending a university, where I would potentially major in exercise science or nutritional science. I am not certain where I will be attending right now, but I know that I would like to attend a four-year. For my degree, my original plan was to major in exercise science or nutritional science, but now I have considered doing both and double majoring,” Busick said.
The Perkins County community has played a part in shaping Busick as a person. She says “My community has shown me the value of taking care of one another. When someone is struggling there is always someone there to help pick them back up and get them on the right track. Through the church I attend, Grant Evangelical Free Church, I am exposed to countless projects that are targeted at helping people in the community. Every year on the 4th of July, our church members volunteer to run the bounce houses, supply water, make and give out cotton candy, and make and give out popcorn. We have helped fellow members with jobs they cannot complete themselves. Such as cleaning up elderly members’ over-cluttered yards. I have also partaken in service projects through the National Honors Society. For example, last year I helped with the blood drive that was held at our school. Being involved in these service projects has helped me to be more aware of the little things I can do to help others in my day-to-day life.”
For being selected Senior of the Month, Perez’s picture will hang in the lobby of Pinnacle Bank in Grant. She will be eligible for a scholarship awarded at the end of the school year.
The Student of the Month and scholarship program are sponsored by Pinnacle Bank of Grant and members of the community.
