FCCLA members awarded at state level

Five officers from the Perkins County High FCCLA (Family, Career & Community Leaders of America) chapter attended the FCCLA State Leadership Conference and STAR Competition April 2-4 in Lincoln. “On the Edge…FCCLA” was the theme of the meeting attended by over 1500 delegates from over 100 FCCLA chapters in Nebraska. 

The members attending from Perkins County High School were Bella Fraizer, Valerie Perez, Karen Ruiz, Jasmine Schulze and Matthew Wendell. The group was sponsored by FCCLA Advisor Cathy Ochsner and parent sponsor Deanna Schulze. 

Matthew Wendell competed in STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) by completing the Junior Division Parliamentary Procedure test on Sunday afternoon at the Courtyard Marriott in Lincoln. Matthew earned a Bronze medal at the STAR awards ceremony on Tuesday morning.

Valerie Perez and Karen Ruiz participated in STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) on Monday at the Pinnacle Bank Arena. 

They competed in the area of hospitality, tourism and recreation senior division. Tuesday morning at the STAR Awards session Valerie and Karen were awarded the Top Gold Championship Medal and qualified to represent Nebraska at the National FCCLA in Nashville, Tenn. in July.
