Gaar selected as Senior of the Month

The October Senior of the Month honor has been awarded to Kenyon Gaar.

Gaar is the son of Russell and Jeanne Gaar of Grant.

Throughout his high school career, Gaar has participated in music, drama and sports as well as served his community and church. 

Gaar has been a part of FCA, quiz bowl, in which he was a state qualifier in 2015 and 2017, speech, qualifying for state in 2016, science club co-captain, Chadron Scholastics, placing 11th in health and top 15 in earth science, and National Honor Society. 

Serving as a class officer, Gaar performed duties as treasurer his freshman year, vice president his sophomore year, and president his junior and senior years. 

As an avid musician, Gaar has spent time as a chorus member earning honors including two time UNK Honor Choir participation and Nebraska All-State. 

He received a National Chorus Member award and was honored as SPVA Best of Class boy’s high solo. 

Gaar also shared his musical talents while participating in high school musicals including: “This Old House,” “Princess Whatshername,” “King Arty and the Knights of the Rad Table” and “The Adventures of Captain Starblaster.” 

Gaar put his athletic skills to work for the Plainsmen participating in cross country and track.

Outside of his school commitments, Gaar has served his community through MOPetts, Mercy Meals, the NHS Blood Drive and various church activities. He has also spent time serving those less fortunate at a homeless shelter in Denver.

He has worked as a farm hand for a local farmer, as a host at Front Street in Ogallala and the Front Street Crystal Palace Revue. 

After graduation, Gaar plans to attend a four year college, potentially majoring in nutrition or vocal music.

For being selected Senior of the Month, Gaar’s picture will hang in the lobby of Pinnacle Bank in Grant. 

He will be eligible for a scholarship awarded at the end of the school year.
