McGreer named January senior
Mason McGreer, son of Patrick and Chelsea McGreer, is named January’s Pinnacle Bank Perkins County Senior of the Month.
McGreer has spent his entire thirteen years of school at Perkins County High School.
When McGreer isn’t hitting the books to maintain his 4.0 GPA, he participates in several activities including National Honors Society, FFA, Speech, High Ability Learning, Cross Country, Basketball, Track, Musical, Mock Trial, One Act, Quiz Bowl, and Student Council. His hard work and dedication is shown through the number of awards and achievements he has received. Some of them are District Champion, State Champion, and Undefeated Season in Cross Country, FFA National Choir, lead role in Musical, and District, and State Champion in Track. McGreer has also participated in Youth Group, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Plainsmen Pals outside of school. He values his extracurricular activities the most out of his highschool experience. He got to explore a number of new places while participating in these activities.
“ One thing I value the most is experiencing new things that come with being involved in the school. All of my extra curricular activities have allowed me to not only travel the state, but the county. Trying new things and going to new places has really expanded my social knowledge. I have learned a lot about social culture , and I have become friends with very interesting people. Although I love the environment of Grant, it was really special (and I believe necessary) to venture into what I am unaware of and learn new skills that can become applicable in my future,” says McGreer.
McGreer has worked with his dad on his farm, ranch, and seed selling business for over six years.
Although it requires a lot of hard work, McGreer believes it is one of the most rewarding things he has ever done. He has also learned several life values while working.
“For the last six years, I’ve worked with my dad for his farm, ranch, and seed selling business. I’ve decided to remain committed to working for him because I’ve found it to be one of the most difficult but rewarding things I’ve ever done. Important lessons I’ve learned from working for him are the value of ambition, timeliness, and hard work. Working on a farm is extremely important and requires a lot of attentiveness. It teaches you how to stay motivated during the extremely tedious tasks you are given. I know that as I’m sitting in a tractor for over eight consecutive hours, putting up a fence, using a sweep auger to clean out a bin, or doing some other challenging task, I know that it will ultimately make me a better person that will be ready for the future,” says McGreer.
After lots of debate McGreer plans to study both music and nursing.
He would like to study at University of Nebraska Kearney.
He says, “I’m planning on studying both music and nursing. I felt really conflicted between music and the medical field, so I hopefully can study both in college. In the future, I plan to be a nurse that makes music part time. My current college of choice is UNK.”
For being selected Senior of the Month, Mason’s picture will hang in the lobby of Pinnacle Bank in Grant and he will be eligible for a scholarship awarded at the end of the school year.
The Student of the Month and scholarship program are sponsored by Pinnacle Bank of Grant and members of the community.
