PC quiz bowl team claims SPVA championship

The Perkins County High School quiz bowl team went 5-1 at the SPVA conference tournament in Imperial on Thursday, March 15 to finish as champions.

 All team members participated in at least two rounds of action, with each member answering either a solo, toss-up question or contributing on bonus questions. 

Coach Deanne Bishop said the championship was a team effort.

PC defeated Hershey 35-0, Sutherland 40-20, North Platte St. Pat’s in overtime 35-30, Bridgeport 50-20 and Chase County 15-10. Their lone loss was to Kimball 15-40. 

Kimball went 4-2 to place second. North Platte St. Pat’s, Sutherland and Hershey all finished 3-3 with the tiebreaker for third going to St. Pat’s for earning the most points of the three teams. 

PC team members include   Captain Kenyon Gaar, Zach Malmkar, Nathan Kemling, Chris Terry, Jaci Kurkowski, Jack Kohl, Matthew Wendell, Jacob Woodmancy, Keegan Sims and Ethan Terry.  

Next action

The team will compete at the ESU 16 district tournament held in Sutherland on Monday, April 9 at 3 p.m. MT.
