PCS one act public performance set for Sunday

The Perkins County Schools one act team will hold their public performance Sunday, Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the jr./sr. high school.

This year’s show is titled “Not-So-Grimm Tales” by Kevin Bean, which this year’s director Nicole Long described as a satire on three of Grimm’s Fairy Tales including Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White and Cinderella.

Pioneer Drama says the play is “a hilarious tongue-in-cheek retelling of classic Grimm fairy tales that feels fresh and contemporary.

A working mother notices her daughter has picked up some not-so-great lessons from the fairy tales she’s been reading, so she sits her down and tells her new, more modern and empowering versions of some of the classics.”

Long said she was looking for a comedy when she selected the show, and because one act typically draws quite a bit of student interest she wanted a show with a large cast so as many students could be involved as possible.

The team started rehearsing Sept. 27 and have been practicing every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evening since to prepare for their season.

“I think the kids are really enjoying it,” Long said, adding how she enjoys seeing the students’ personalities “blossom” as she has known the students since they were little.

“The kids have done a phenomenal job of learning their lines, and I’ve been really impressed by that,” she added.

The students will attend their first competition of the season the Monday after their public performance, Nov. 22.

Hershey is the host of this year’s SPVA competition, but the meet will be held in North Platte at the Fox Theatre.

Long said she encourages the public to attend, and admission to the theatre will grant all-day access to the SPVA shows.

She added that the team would love to have people attend Sunday’s public performance, as the kids love seeing people there to support them.
