Perkins County earned third place at SPVA speech

Perkins County was one of 28 schools to compete in North Platte at the Best of the West speech meet on Saturday, Mar. 7.

“The season is coming to an end,” said Coach Penny Hite. “The kids have done so well it is hard to have to come down to the top two in each event. However, they are all to be commended for their efforts and continued support of each other throughout the year.”

10 entries from Perkins County medaled at North Platte’s meet, and 12 entries received superior rankings.

“I just hold my breath now and let them do their thing and see where the chips fall,” Hite said.

The team then headed to the SPVA meet hosted by Hershey on Monday, Mar. 9.

Perkins County finished in third place at SPVA and 11 events received medals. Two of the medalists, Jacob Woodmancy in humerous prose and Meghan Bishop in persuasive, received first place in their events.

The next speech meet for Perkins County is the district meet on Monday, Mar. 16 in North Platte.
