Perkins County kicks off season with a dozen medals

The Perkins County speech team kicked off their season with a home speech meet Saturday, Jan. 30.

There were 13 schools in attendance with a total of 159 students competing. 25 of those students were from Perkins County.

Coach Penny Hite said this was the first in-person meet for many of the schools who attended, so they were quite happy to allow the students to compete face to face.

After two qualifying rounds and a final round, 16 students across 12 performances earned medals.

Their next meet will be the Sutherland Speech Invite on Saturday, Feb. 6. The meet will be in-person, and at this time spectators will not be allowed.
