Perkins County school board reviews policies, approves financial payments
The Perkins County Schools Board of Education met Aug. 18 in the Junior High/High School Library, where members approved bills and payroll, discussed district policies, and authorized a major building fund payment.
Board President Chris Fryzek called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. Members present included Jayson Bishop, Holly Cornelius, Tori Gengenbach, Jason Noyes, and Cameron Sis. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and Cornelius confirmed notice of the meeting had been published.
Financial approvals
The board unanimously approved the July 14 meeting minutes and authorized payment of $973,509.92 in general fund claims and $11,136.94 in lunch fund claims. Expenditures included $200,000 to the district’s depreciation fund, $34,296 to Reese Mechanical, $23,986.37 to Potts Electric, $10,380 to Hardwood Specialists, and $3,685.35 to Goff Services, among other vendors. The district also recorded a $60,000 transfer to the lunch fund.
Additionally, members approved a $521,762.50 payment from the building fund for promissory notes to Northland Security, to be wired Sept. 2.
Reports and policy review
Reports were presented by administrators and coordinators, including elementary principal Mr. Reising, high school principal Mr. Pettera, activities director Mr. Cole, curriculum coordinator Mrs. Bishop, technology coordinator Mrs. Seiler, and Superintendent Mark Jolliffe.
Board members reviewed 10 policies, ranging from drug-free workplace guidelines and restrictions on employee gratuities to insurance provisions and inclement weather procedures. The board also discussed the possibility of passing a resolution to increase the district’s base growth percentage by up to seven percent, or the maximum allowed by law.
Executive sessions
The board entered executive session twice during the evening. The first session began at 7:55 p.m. to receive legal advice from the district’s attorney and concluded at 8:35 p.m. A second executive session was held from 8:38 to 10:09 p.m. before members returned to open session.
The meeting adjourned at 10:16 p.m. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Junior High/Senior High Media Center
