Perkins County speakers compete at Sutherland, NPHS

February finds PCHS speakers competing on the first three Saturdays. Sutherland hosted its 11-school invitational on the Feb. 4 while North Platte High School held its annual two-day meet on Feb. 10-11. 

The first day of the NPHS contest is devoted to Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, and Student Congress. Perkins County speakers compete only on the second day of the contest, entering the nine NSAA speaking events.

North Platte High School

Because of the number of schools attending the North Platte High School Blue and Gold, finals are divided into three divisions—championship (top six varsity speakers), honors (seventh-12th place varsity speakers), and novice (top six first-year contestants).

Duet: Kanyon Gaar and Chris Terry 11th

OID Novice: Sam McArtor, Matthew Wendell, Ian Sihm, Jacob Woodmancy and Keshia Leeper first

OID Varsity: Colton Heinemann, Chris Terry, Kenyon Gaar and Bryce Grothman fourth.

Ogallala Middle School will be the site of a regional speech contest on Saturday, Feb. 18. Rounds will begin at 8 a.m. This will be the final meet for PCHS speakers until their March 6 SPVA contest to be held at Hershey.
