Perkins County speech team takes second at Sutherland

Perkins County earned second at the Sutherland speech meet on Saturday, Feb. 8 with a total of 46 points.

Sutherland took first place of the 10 teams that competed, having earned a total of 52 points.

13 performances brought home medals last week across a variety of categories.

“We did not do as well as we hoped, but this time of year, everyone is getting better,” said Coach Penny Hite. “We just know that we are focusing on March and using the critiques to our advantage so we can continue to grow this week.”

The team also struggled with illnesses last week, Hite encouraged them to focus on their health and well-being more than anything.

“I am extremely proud of the kids’ dedication to this team and to each other,” Hite said.

The North Platte Blue and Gold Meet will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15. Classes A-D2 will all compete together in two categories: varsity and novice.

The meet will place 12 competitors at the varsity level for each category, and 6 novice competitors will be able to earn a medal in the championship final.
