Perkins County students shine at district music

Perkins County vocal and band students participated in district music on Friday, April 21 at Sutherland High School along with students from Arthur, Brady, Cozad, Gothenburg, Hershey, Maxwell, McPherson County, Ogallala, Paxton, North Platte St. Pat’s, Stapleton, Sutherland and Wallace, a mixture of Class B, C and D schools.

Two Perkins County entries were considered among the top three performances of the day—the girls chorus received the NSAA Outstanding Performance award and soloist Kenyon Gaar received the NSAA District Music Honorable Mention. These awards are determined by individual judges hearing solos and small ensembles who choose what they consider the day’s three best performances, one outstanding performance and two honorable mentions.
