School challenges students with food drive

The Perkins County Junior High Student Council is asking for help in restocking the local food pantry. The pantry is bare and with winter fast approaching needs stockpiled for community families in need.

Junior/High School Principal Dean Friedel has challenged all classes to compete. The elementary and junior/senior high classes that donate the most items per class will be rewarded with an all-class hour off eighth period in which the class will be allowed in the gym to play a game, chosen by the winning class.

Donated items must be compliant with the expiration date. Monetary donations will also be accepted. Each $1 donated will count as one item.

Each class has a designated donation box for their class’s donations to be counted for the challenge.

The dates for the competition will be Oct. 16-23. Items can donated at school or during parent-teacher conferences on Thursday, Oct. 19.
