Speech team competes at area meets
The PC speech team has competed in three meets the last three Saturdays. They are looking forward to a break this Saturday to rest prepare for the Best of the West meet in North Platte on March 2.
Sutherland
Despite numerous scheduling conflicts and illness, the Perkins County speech team still managed to place third overall at the Sutherland Invite on Saturday, Feb. 2.
They qualified for finals in all nine events.
Informative—Sam McArtor, first.
Persuasive—Katie Patrick, first; Meghan Bishop, sixth, made finals but did not compete due to basketball scheduling conflict.
Oral Interpretation of Drama—Jacob Woodmancy, Peyton Woodmancy, McArtor, Keisha Leeper and Matthew Wendell, second.
Entertainment—Ian Sihm, second; P. Woodmancy, third.
Humorous—Leeper, fifth; J. Woodmancy, missed finals by one point.
Duet—Bella Fraizer and Sihm, sixth.
Extemporaneous—Jeb Kohl, sixth, made finals but did not compete due to basketball scheduling conflict.
Serious—Mady Ingold, sixth; Fraizer, missed finals by one rank.
Poetry—Summer Postlewait, sixth.
North Platte
Coach Penny Hite said the Blue and Gold meet in North Platte on Feb. 9 was by far the most competitive speech meet they had attended.
There were 21 teams from Class A to Class D, and it was the first meet that had two different divisions to compete in, Novice and Varsity. Novice are first-year speechsters.
PC had six finalists.

Extemporaneous—Wendell, fourth
Humorous—J. Woodmancy, sixth
Entertainment—Sihm, ninth
Duet—Frazier and Sihm, 12th
Novice placings:
Oral Interpretation of Drama—Dolezal, Hite, Kohl and Patrick, fourth.
Persuasive—Bishop, fourth.
Varsity superior ratings:
Humorous—Leeper; Terry
Informative—Rylee Huff; McArtor; Savannah Schmitt
Serious—Anselmo Perez; Hannah Kempf.
Novice superiors ratings:
Poetry—Hallie Fisher; Postlewait
Serious: Ingold
The varsity tied for eighth with 42 points and novice was also eighth with 36.
Ogallala
Despite the bad weather on Feb. 16 the team competed at the meet in Ogallala with 17 teams. The team placed fourth with 47 points.
