TeamMates program seeking mentors

Perkins County Schools TeamMates program is in need of more mentors.

PCS initiated the TeamMates program this past school year with sixth and seventh grade students. Program Coordinator Larry Pritchett said they had 19 students participate this past year.

“It was a short year in that we didn’t get started with the mentor/mentee matches until March, but in just that short time, the program got a great start,” he said.

At the end of the school year, mentors and mentees were asked to fill out some exit reports, and 100 percent stated they want to continue with the matches and the meetings.

This coming year, the program is adding another grade, and therefore is in need of more mentors.

“The program is a great opportunity for you to be able to impact a young person’s life by spending just 30 minutes once a week with them. The return on investment is staggering when you think about what is possible in this program,” said Pritchett.
