Hannah Sullivan, Jerad Phillips, Micah Swedberg and Hannah Robertson recently represented Wallace in the 2017 Class D All State Band held in Kearney at the UNK campus.

Last December, students submitted auditions to participate in one of three bands that would perform at the event. Students from 37 different class D schools were selected to participate in either the jazz band, the wind ensemble or the symphonic band.

Jerad Phillips, playing trombone and Hannah Robertson, playing tenor sax, auditioned for and were selected to perform in the jazz band which was under the direction of Mr. Mark Irving. Mr. Irving has directed the Class D Jazz Band for the past 22 years.

Micah Swedberg was selected to perform in the wind ensemble playing tuba. The wind ensemble was directed by Dr. Karen Fannin, from UNO.

Hannah Sullivan played clarinet in the symphonic band.

It was directed by Dr. Sidney Shuler, the director of bands at Chadron State College.

The students came together from all over the state and rehearsed under the direction of a director they have never played for, and were able to create beautiful music after just a few hours of rehearsing.

Contributed Representing Wallace in the Class D All State Band were (l-r): Hannah Sullivan, Jerad Phillips, Micah Swedberg and Hannah Robertson.
