The March senior of the month honor was given to Beau Wood, son of Brandon and Amanda Wood of Grant.

Throughout his high school career, Wood has been involved in several school sports and activities including choir, band, One Acts, speech, student council, football, track and cross country, and he participated in the musical as well as wrestling all four years.

Wood excelled in wrestling where he qualified for state all four years, won third place his sophomore and junior years, and earned the state champion gold in his weight class this year.

He was honored as the AAU All American Wrestler his sophomore year, and was a member of the Husker National Wrestling Team.

Academically, Wood has earned a spot on the A honor roll list, and lettered all four years. He also took on the role of class president his freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years.

Beau was awarded the NSAA outstanding performance award at the 2017 District Play Production.

“The accomplishment I am most proud of is my character. I have always tried to make a positive impact on people, whether it is being a role model someone can look up to, a figure someone can talk to, or simply being a friend to those that need one. If I can influence just one individual to make the right decisions by being a positive role model, then all of the hardships and sacrifices I have made in high school will be worth it,” Wood said.

Outside of school, Wood is active in Boy Scouts, and his church where he has helped with various youth groups and also attended a mission trip to Haiti.

Wood has gained experience with various jobs, after being employed by Perkins County Schools, Bruce Young, Lavern Poppe as well as Great Plains Communications.

“I am exploring the avenues of criminal investigations, psychological research, and physiology studies. I plan on attending college, but have yet to decide which one,” Wood said.

For being selected Senior of the Month, Wood’s picture will hang in the lobby of Pinnacle Bank in Grant. He will be eligible for a scholarship awarded at the end of the school year.

The Student of the Month and scholarship program are sponsored by Pinnacle Bank of Grant and members of the community.
