Enjoy family while wait for NU coach continues

A lot of action this week and none of them featured Nebraska football in a game. Still plenty of Husker news. All kinds of rumors about who Nebraska was looking at as their next Head Football Coach.

Trev Alberts the AD did make a statement that the rumors were just that, only rumors. Nebraska did hire a company that helps contact potential replacements for open coaching positions. Alberts did announce that Mickey Joseph would get $33,350 dollars added to his contract as long as stays in the interim position. He also mentioned that there is a chance that Coach Joseph could have the interim taken off in the future. It will be interesting in seeing how this situation works out.

My opinion, and my opinion and a $1 bill get you a soda,  is that it will take a lot of changing in what little time is left in this season. to turn the current situation at Nebraska into a winning team. I hope they make positive changes and start the comeback to a team that is a threat to win the Big 10 and gets a shot at a good bowl game.

On a personal note, this past week helped soften the “moving from Grant” thoughts that often come to my mind. Last Monday we got to go to another flag football game and watch our 11-year-old grandson’s flag football game. I know I am biased, but Kyler has some athletic skills. He is quick, he actually has some pretty good moves to keep from having his flags pulled off, and he plays hard. Granted this week they were playing a team that was probably mostly fourth graders and they didn’t have a lot of skills yet but they were the opponents and they played hard but came up kind of short. There isn’t a scoreboard and they have rules about that help the team losing if they get 30 points down but Grandpa and Ky’s father counted what went on and we are pretty sure that Ky’s group put about 80 points up on the invisible scoreboard. Ky had his share of those and that always makes Grandpa proud.

One thing you have to remember it is flag football and Ky looks pretty good most of the time BUT he has never been hit by a linebacker yet and then you can see what happens.

Also on Friday, we went to a Malcolm football game which they won over Tri-County 48-0 but we got to see our granddaughter participate in some cheerleading during halftime with about 40 other little gals. Not sure how to grade that activity but I would say if they had fun, it was a great job. The greatest part of the night was Kenley running over and giving Grandma—Grandma always first—and then Grandpa a bit hug and telling us she was glad we came to watch! Hard to beat that moment.

Then on Saturday, I got to watch Duke and KU play. Now I like to watch these two Blue Bloods play basketball but this is the first time football entered the picture. Both teams were undefeated and the game was played at KU and was a sell-out crowd-wise. I enjoyed watching the game and KU ended up winning it. First time in a while that KU has been undefeated just four games into the season and I would imagine the same for Duke. KU has a pretty tough schedule for the rest of the season and it will be interesting to see how they finish. I don’t think they will go undefeated but they will have at least four wins.

Congratulations to the Plainsmen teams. Some pretty good team and individual efforts so far and I hope that keeps up. Stay strong teams, golfers, and cross-country teams. Go Plainsmen!
