Boys and girls place at Chase County and Hershey

Perkins County tracksters competed in two track meets this past week. They traveled to Imperial on a windy Tuesday for the Chase County Invite on April 17 and Hershey on Monday, April 23, finally greeting some favorable weather.  

Chase County

Coach Shayne Hite said the athletes competed well at the Chase County Invite, with the wind favoring the sprinters. 

The boys placed third with 94 points. 

Taking golds were Alex Patrick in the 100, Charles Johnson in 200 and Evan Sestak in high jump. 

Sestak also claimed a bronze in the 110 hurdles, along with Caden Waitley and Nathan Kemling in the 3200 and pole vault respectively. The 4x400 and 4x100 weights relay teams also took third. 

Other point contributors included Matthew Hahn in the 1600, Jaden Dietlein in the 3200, Sestak in the 300 hurdles, Colton Heinemann in discus, Waitley in the high jump, Jack Kohl in the triple jump and the 4x800 relay team. 

The girls placed fifth with 62 points. 

Hailey Snyder claimed the gold in the triple jump and a silver medal went to Jaci Kurkowski in shotput. 

In addition to the 4x100 weights relay receiving second, other point contributors included Hannah Kempf in the 100, Snyder in the 200 and 400, Miah Long in the 400 and 800, Aryn Seiler in discus, Rylee Huff in long jump and the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. 

Hite said the team still has some detail work on field events to keep working on. 

“We are not in shape yet so we will keep working on this as the season progresses,” he said.

Hershey

The boys placed fifth at Hershey with 53 points.

Earning the only gold was Alex Patrick in the 200. 

Two silvers went to Hahn and Sestak in the 1600 and high jump respectively. 

Waitley took third in the 800, as did the 4x400 relay team. 

Other point contributors included Johnson in the 100, Waitley in the 400 and high jump, Dietlein in the 3200, Sestak in the 110 hurdles and Heinemann in discus. 

The girls placed fifth with 36 points. 

Claiming silvers were Long in the 800 and Snyder in triple jump. Kurkowski took third in shot put.

Other point contributors included Kempf in the 100 and 200, Snyder in the 400, Seiler in long jump and the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams.
