Boys second and third at last week’s meets

The Perkins County boys and girls track teams competed at meets in Imperial and Hershey last week.

The boys took third at the Chase County Invite and second at the Mike Troxell Invite in Hershey. 

Chase County

The boys took third place behind Chase County and Ogallala at the Chase County Invite last Tuesday, April 16 against tough competition.

Silver seemed to be the medal of choice with the Plainsmen bringing home seven. Alex Patrick took second in the 100 and 200, Evan Sestak in the 110 hurdles and high jump, Caden Waitley in the 800, Jaden Dietlein in the two-mile and Spencer Ross in the shot put. The 400 relay also claimed second. 

Chase County dominated the gold in the running events with Ogallala taking many of them in the field. 

Sestak captured third in the 300 hurdles and Matthew Hahn took third in the one-mile.

Other medalists included Triston Hite and Trye Hickey at fourth in pole vault triple jump respectively, Waitley in high jump with fifth and the 1600 relay team in sixth.

The girls walked away with two individual medal winners. 

Hailey Snyder placed first in triple jump, fifth in the 200 and sixth in the 400. Kiara Schulze earned fifth in 300 hurdles. 

The 400 relay team placed third with the 1600 relay team placing fourth.

Hershey

The boys took second behind Chase County at the Mike Troxel Invite at Hershey on Thursday, April 18. 

In addition to the 3200 relay, three golds were claimed by Sestak in 110 hurdles, Beau Wood in shot put and Dietlein in the two-mile. 

Once again, the silver medal came out on top with the team earning six: Patrick, 100; Hahn, one-mile; Wood, 300 hurdles; Ross, shot put; Sestak, high jump; and the 1600 relay team.

 Sestak took third in the 300 hurdles, and Waitley took fourth and fifth in the 800 and high jump respectively. 

Hailey Snyder and two relay teams claimed the only medals for the girls. Snyder took first in triple jump and third in the 400. 

Both the 400 and 1600 relay teams placed fifth.
