Boys take first at Chase County

Four out of 18 Perkins County male runners contributed to the team’s first place finish at the Chase County meet on Thursday, Sept. 7.

The boys finished 20 points ahead of the second place team, Ogallala.

Caden Waitley ran a career personal best with a time of 17:39.69, finishing behind Chase County’s Will Kuenne and Ogallala’s Jack Lindgren to take third place.

Jaden Dietlein placed fourth with a time of 18:21.01 and Nathan Kemling followed in eighth place at 19:04.94.

Matthew Hahn ran a career personal best and finished just out of the medals in 16th place. Jarin Tines finished in the top 20 at 19th place.

For the girls, Hailey Snyder finished just one place out of medals in 16th place with a time of 23:35.90.

Coach Paula Wurst said Chase County is a very competitive meet, so the boys getting first is quite an accomplishment.

She noted Evan Sestak and Beau Wood ran significantly faster than last week, and Snyder and several other runners ran faster than last year on the same course.

“We were really pleased with the effort that these runners showed,” she said.

The team will compete against 15 other schools at the McCook meet on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. MT.
