Garner, Hite, Foster top bball stat charts

Juniors Hunter Garner, Triston Hite and Hayden Foster finished as the basketball team’s stat leaders for the 2020-21 season.

But it was Garner who made the biggest impact stat-wise on this year’s team.

Garner led the team in total field goals made with 162. That included 97 2-pointers at a 43% clip and 65 3-pointers, dropping 29%, for an overall shooting average of 36%.

He led the team at the free throw line, going 50-81 for 62%. That gave him 439 points for the year, an average of 17.6 points per game.

He also led the team in rebounds with 165 for a 6.6 per game average and steals with a total of 90 for a 3.6 per game average.

In the process, he set five new records: most 3-pointers in a single game with 7; most 3-pointers in a season; most steals in a season; most points in a season; and a tie for most points in a single game, 32, with Spencer Ross, 2018-19.

Hite led the team in assists with 67 or 2.68 per game. He followed Garner in number of field goals made, number of 3-pointers, total points and steals.

Foster led the team with 23 blocks and followed Garner in rebounds, free throws made and 2-pointers made. He was third in field goals made, total points and steals.

The Plainsmen set two team records during the season. They scored the most 3-pointers in a game with 12 against Wauneta-Palisade and scored the most total points in a season with 1,315.

Coach Shawn Cole credited his team for the individual and team records set this year.

None of those records happen without the contributions of the entire team, he noted.

The Plainsmen finished the season with a 13-12 record including winning subdistricts to advance to the district final.
