Girls open golf season at Bayard

Perkins County’s girls golf team will open their season Thursday at the Bayard Invitational.

This year’s team includes juniors Kayton Brueggeman, Kayla Reichenberg, Emme Sims and sophomore Sarah Cockerill.

Rich Borman will coach the team, succeeding Shawn Cole, who has moved over to junior high football coaching.

Borman had nothing but praise for Cole for laying the groundwork for the girls’ team. “He had them trending in the right direction,” Borman said.

Borman, who is an avid golfer himself, said the girls have been working hard on the developing a simple, repeatable swing.

They have also been working on the short game, putting and reading greens.

“They’ve made tremendous progress so far and are so eager to learn,” Borman added.

With limited practice time, Thursday’s meet will be the first 18-hole score the girls will card this season.
