The Perkins County Lady Plainsmen golf team opened its season on Thursday, Aug. 25, in Bayard. Only the top five varsity members played in the tournament, including Jacqueline Gloy, Emma Klahn, Ella Uehling, Kaitlin Meyer and Sarah Cockerill.

It was the first time that Gloy and Uehling had competed in a varsity meet. However, according to Head Coach Kelly Smith, the two handled the 18-hole course well.

“It was an adjustment for both of them,” he said. “Neither scored as they had hoped, but it was good experience for them.”

Smith commented that the course had the deepest rough that he had seen for a while, but said the girls all handled it well.

“Really, we just view this meet as a practice meet,” Smith said, of Bayard, which included several larger schools.

Emma Klahn led the team during the day with a with a score of 122, followed by Gloy with 132. Other scores were as follows: Katlin Meyer, 134, Sarah Cockrill, 146, and Ella Uehling, 152.
