Highs and lows for PC golfers last week

Last week was a busy one for the Perkins County Plainsmen golfers, after the previous week’s weather had postponed more than one of their regularly scheduled events. Throughout the week, they had played three different invites, on three different days, traveling to each one. 

After the week was over, they had taken first, fifth and second place respectively, as a team. 

Garden County

On Monday, May 1, the PC golf team traveled to Garden County.

They came out on top as a team with a score of 355, beating the host and number two team by 50 strokes. 

Individually, Tyler Thelander was the top scorer of the day, after shooting an 84, and just trailing him with a score of 85 was PC’s Tyson Patrick. Josh Johnston placed fifth individually with 87 strokes.

Creek Valley

Tuesday, May 2 saw the PCS golfers head to Creek Valley were they would take fifth place as a team, out of a total of eight teams.

The top team of the day was Mullen, with 317 strokes, 52 less than PC. 

It was a rough day for the Plainsmen, and there were no PCS students in the top ten scorers list individually.

Kimball 

Thursday, May 4 had the Plainsman golfers at the Kimball Invite. 

Just eight strokes was all that separated the number one team ( Kimball), and the Plainsmen who as a team shot a 338. 

Josh Johnston was the day's fourth top golfer, and he shot an 81. The number six golfer of the day was Tyson Patrick whose individual score was 83, and Tyler Thelander landed in the eighth place with 85.

Coach Kemling said of the day, “It was a challenging day for everyone. The greens were lightning quick and provided a source of frustration for the majority of competitors. I was pleased that as a team, we raised the level of our game and gave Kimball a fight on their own course.”

Next Action 

SPVA was held in Sutherland on Tuesday, May 9. 

The Ogallala Invite will be held on Thursday, May 11 and the Plainsmen will be there to take on the other teams in the last invite before districts next week.
