Husker Whitney Brown may only be a freshman but she’s been making key contributions this year, especially when the team was down to just eight players for a period of time. Brown, the great niece of Dick Thurin, helped Grand Island Northwest win a state title two years ago and fell to the state champion Crete in a three-overtime game in the semis last year. On Jan. 16, Brown scored a career-high 14 points and knocked down a career-best four three-pointers to help Nebraska to a 63-55 win over No. 15 Ohio State, their only loss of the season. She is averaging 3.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.0 assist through 14 games as a Husker and is shooting a team-best 38.7 percent (12-31) from three-point range and owns Nebraska’s best assist-to-turnover ratio (13-to-7).
