Charlie Johnson is one of four backup quarterbacks competing for playing time on the Peru State Bobcat football team this season.

The 6-5, 181-pound freshman from Grant graduated from Perkins County High School in May.

In his seventh year as head coach of the team, Steve Schneider said he was looking forward to another very competitive year in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The team has finished as the runner-up in the Heart North Division three out of the last five years.

The season began on Aug. 25, and continues with 11 straight weeks facing conference opponents. The Bobcats have lost their first three games, playing their first home game last Saturday.
