The Lady Plainsmen continued their season with two tournaments last week. The first took place on October 14, at Hershey Highschool. The other teams in attendance were Dundy County Stratton Tigers and Hershey Panthers. Then on Saturday, October 18 the girl traveled to Kimball Highschool. The other teams competing were Chase County Longhorns, Hershey Panthers, and Kimball Longhorns.

Hershey Triangular

First the Plainsmen the Dundy County Stratton Tigers. The game was close the whole time however, Perkins County earned the win in only two sets. The first set ended with a score of 25-21. In the second set, Tigers came back stronger, however plainsmen remained in the lead with a final score of 26-24.

The Lady Plainsmen then suited up to face the Hershey Panthers. Despite their previous win, Plainsmen fell to the Panthers in two sets. The first set ended with a score 25-19 followed by the second set ending in 25-17

Kimball Tournament

The Plainsmen started the tournament off playing the Kimball Longhorns. They won in two sets. Each set was played until Plainsmen achieved 25 points to win.

Plainsmen had some motivation from the previous win against Longhorns as well as another chance to play the Hershey Panthers. Plainsmen continued their winning streak, making a comeback to the Panthers. They played two sets. 25-22 was the first set total followed by 25-16 in the second set.

Plainsmen faced Chase County Longhorns in the championship round. Unfortunately, Plainsmen fell behind in the first set 25-8 with Longhorns taking the win in the first set. The second set was a close match, scoring 25-21, with Chase County in the lead.

Head Coach Monica Cole reflects on the Plainsmen’s performance. “Going in as the 4 seed we knew that we would have a chance to get ourselves to the championship match if we played well and executed the game plan vs Hershey like we knew we could. Super proud of the girls’ effort and fight to win that game. The championship game vs Chase County was a good competitive game in the 2nd set. The first set, I think we psyched ourselves out a bit and got into a huge hole, but then the girls gained momentum back in the 2nd to compete against them like we can. Overall, proud of their grit and fight to keep going all day long and not letting the mental side of things bring them down. We have Kimball this week and then onto Sub-Districts!”

Next Action
