The Lady Plainsmen have started practicing for the 2025 basketball season. They play under Head Coach Deanne Bishop, who has been coaching for twenty five years total. Bishop coached for two years as a junior high head coach, thirteen years as a high school assistant coach and ten years as a high school head coach. Joining her will be Spencer Ross and Mike Mayer as assistant coaches.
Last year, the Lady Plainsmen held a record of 10-13. They currently have twenty four games on the calendar this year. Eleven games will be hosted at Perkins County High School. This season twenty girls are out for the sport and half of them are returning players from previous years whereas four players are returning with varsity experience. Freshmen stepping onto the high school court are Macey Cole, Lila Hill, Ryleigh Johnson, Alysssa Laber, Paisley Mayer, Kinley Richmond, Jentry Wallin, and Marisa Wykert. Sophomores participating this year are Morgan Day, Olivia Genenbach and Addison York. Juniors playing this season include Lauren Bishop, Ella Homan, Haylea McGreer, Karina Morales, Madison Potts, Anley Sauder, and Emily Wilson. Seniors preparing for their last high basketball school season are Hannah Bishop and Jacqueline Gloy. Managers on the team are Shyne Hickey, Karime Morales and Cecilia Putnam.
A new season and a different team dynamic brings new challenges and strengths. As the 2024 seniors graduated, replacing them will be a challenge however, the underclassmen are competitive. All the team members have depth in all positions on the court as well as experience. These strengths will help them face tough competition and help them maintain playing at a high level.
Practice for the Lady Plainsmen is under way. They will travel to Cambridge Nebraska to scrimmage against Cambridge High School on November 25. They will then have the first game of the regular season on December 4 at Perkins County High School against Hershey High School. The junior varsity games will begin at 4 pm. Varsity girls will begin playing at 5:30 pm.
