Lady Plainsmen beat Cougars

Moving their record to 4-13 with a win over Sedgwick County, Colorado following a loss to Holyoke last week, the Lady Plainsmen rolled into this week with a game against Maxwell Tuesday night and Cambridge on Friday. 

Holyoke

The Holyoke Dragons came to play the Lady Plainsmen on Tuesday night and ran the court from the beginning, taking the score to 15-2 at the end of the first. 

The second quarter saw the PC girls put up four points, yet allow eight to go up for the Holyoke team for a 23-6 board at halftime in the Dragons favor. 

The Lady Plainsmen added six points in the third, while Holyoke added 14. By the end of the game the Lady Dragons took the win 50-18. 

Dani Burge was the top scorer for PC with nine points, followed by Hailey Snyder with four. Meghan Bishop contributed three points and Hallie Fisher had two. 

Sedgwick County

On Thursday, Jan. 24, the Sedgwick County Cougars came to battle the Lady Plainsmen. The PC girls saw Kiara Schulze and Dani Burge both hit the net, while their defense held the Cougars to just three points by the end of the first. Schulze and Burge each put up another two baskets and Fisher and Rylee Huff also contributed a basket for the Lady Plainsmen. Sedgwick County put up 10 in the second for a halftime lead by three for the Lady Plainsmen, 16-13.

Burge hit the net and Schulze followed with a triple before Burge hit the net again and drew a foul for a good extra point. Snyder added one more in the bucket for the Plainsmen, while the defense held the Sedgwick County Cougars to no points until the final minute of the third when they hit a trey. 

A 3-point shot from Fisher and a bucket from Hannah Kempf in the final led the PC girls to a 37-23 victory over Sedgwick County. 

Burge was again the top scorer with 13 points, while Fisher followed with eight. Also contributing to the points for the Plainsmen in the game against Sedgwick County were Schulze, seven; Huff, five; Snyder and Kempf each had two.

Next action

Tuesday, Jan. 29, the Lady Plainsmen hosted the 7-10 Maxwell Wildcats, and on Friday, Feb. 1, Cambridge’s Lady Trojans, who currently sit at a 10-6 record, will head to PC for a 5 p.m. game time. 

The following day will see the Lady Plainsmen travel to Cozad, and Feb. 5’s game against the Creek Valley Storm will be the girls’ last game before sub-districts the week of Feb. 11.
