The 2018 Perkins County Girls’ Golf team included (l-r): Savannah Clark, Kayton Brueggeman, Peyton Woodmancy, Kayla Reichenberg and Emme Sims. The team this year was a young team, as all members, with the exception of senior Woodmancy, are freshmen.

Lady Plainsmen end season at districts

Crandall Creek Golf Course in Ogallala was the host of the C-5 Girls’ Golf Districts on Oct. 1, where 12 teams came to compete for a shot at the trip to state.

The Perkins County girls didn’t get the outcome they had hoped for and ultimately ended their season. A team score of 545 put the Lady Plainsmen in eighth place for the day, with only the top three teams advancing to state.

Taking first was the Ogallala team with a day total of 351, followed by Bridgeport who shot 396 as a team. The final qualifying team was Mitchell, who shot a 400, beating out Valentine for the final spot by 14 strokes.

Other qualifiers were freshman Payton Wise of Kimball, who shot an 87 earning her third place individually,  and junior Ramsey Ravenscroft of Valentine who had a day total of 88 for fourth.

Kayton Brueggeman was the leading Lady Plainsmen with 122 shots. Peyton Woodmancy followed with 125. Savannah Clark shot a 143 and Kayla Reichenberg ended the day with a 155.

Head Coach Shawn Cole commended the girls on the great job they did at districts and the improvement they have shown throughout the course of their season.

“All of them improved over the season and that is all I can ask for,” Coach Cole said.

Looking ahead for the PC girls’ golf team, Coach Cole said he’s hopeful for the future for this young team.

“I feel if we can keep this group together and move forward, we can put ourselves in a position to compete at a team level for a chance to play in the state tournament in the next few years,” he said.
