Lady Plainsmen get redemption

PC defeats South Platte after previous loss

The Lady Plainsmen competed in a triangular and a tourney at the end of last week, and they came out of the weekend with three wins and two losses added to their record.

Paxton Triangular

Thursday, Sept. 17, Perkins County participated in Paxton’s triangular, which included Perkins County, Paxton and South Platte.

First, the Lady Plainsmen faced the Paxton Tigers. The game only lasted two sets, as Perkins County defeated their opponents in both, 25-18 and 25-16.

Coach Monica Cole said the girls were focused and ready to play to ensure a win against Paxton, and they succeeded!

Next up for the evening was South Platte, who had already defeated Perkins County in a previous game, and were undefeated up until Thursday.

“The first set was a little eerie as the girls played timid and a bit out of sorts without much unity,” Cole said. “We took a breath after set one and decided that playing as a unified team would be the better outcome for us. We adjusted to that, got some fire and came alive.”

Though Perkins County fell to their opponents in the first set, 25-16, the Lady Plainsmen gave it their all in the final sets.

Cole described the remaining sets as a back and forth, up and down battle.

“In the end, we could have quit when they had 24,” she said. “That’s where we grew mentally.” Perserverance, Cole added, helped the girls come out on top.

Perkins County defeated South Platte in the final two sets 26-24 and 27-25.
