Lady Plainsmen to kick off season this week under new coach, Geitz

The Lady Plainsmen will tackle the upcoming season with first year Head Coach Katie Geitz at the helm.

Geitz was assistant to Coach Lance Steffen last year and she says she is looking forward to the upcoming season with a team that she says is the biggest in three years.

Fifteen girls will take the court this year for Perkins County, including Hailey Snyder, the team’s only senior, who is one of the returning starters.

Coach Geitz says Snyder is an important leader for the team and says she is “looking to be a large defensive threat.”

Another starter will be Dani Burge, a sophomore who was a leading rebounder last season and according to coach Geitz, is a “large threat in the paint.”

Rylee Huff is also a starting sophomore and “made some great moves offensively and defensively last year and is looking to be more of an offensive threat this year,” Geitz said.

Miah Long and Hannah Kempf will also return for the Lady Plainsmen, both sophomores.

“We have a large group of freshmen coming in this season, looking to make an impact on the growth of the program,” Geitz said.

The 10 freshmen new to the team include Juels Lyon, Meghan Bishop, Kiara Schulze, Kylie Tucker, Hallie Fisher, Autumn Anderson, Kayton Brueggeman, Sammie Patrick, Patricia Loy and Savannah Clark.

Long-time assistant coach Mike Mayer is back this season along side football coach Jonathan Hunt as the assistant coaches.

The Lady Plainsmen ended their season last year with a 2-16 record, so they knew they had some work to put in, however, Geitz says they have worked hard in the off season and they are ready to move forward.

“We look forward to watching these girls grow as athletes throughout the season,” Geitz said.

The first game for the Lady Plainsmen will be Thursday, Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. MT in Hershey.

The first home game will be Friday, Nov. 30 when Wray comes to PC for a 5:30 p.m. game.

See next week’s issue for results from the first week of play action.
