Lady Plainsmen looking for first win in tournament

Three games last week gave the Lady Plainsmen and first-year coach Katie Geitz three more games of experience to grow from.

Although they added losses to their record, Coach Geitz says she is pleased with the hard work the girls are putting in every game.

Paxton

Traveling to Paxton last Tuesday, the PC girls were going for their third year of victory over the Lady Tigers.

After coming up just short in the first, PC down by four, the Lady Plainsmen were able to hold Paxton to nine points in the second, while they added 14 of their own to give them a one-point lead going into halftime, 21-20.

PC continued to fight defensively and offensively in the third and came out ahead still by one point, 30-29.

It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Paxton was able to pull ahead and take the game by three points, with a 38-35 win over PC.

Kiara Schulze was the top scorer of the game against Paxton with 15 points, including two three-point shots.

Samantha Patrick had six points in the Paxton game and Hallie Fisher followed with four.

Ogallala

The Lady Plainsmen hosted the 4-1 Ogallala Lady Indians on Friday night.

Ogallala held PC to just six points before halftime, when the score read 28-6.

The second half of the game saw PC make four points, while the Lady Indians continued to run away with the game for a 50-10 victory over the Lady Plainsmen.

DCS

The Dundy County Stratton Lady Tigers hosted the PC girls on Saturday, Dec. 15.

DCS held the Lady Plainsmen to three points in the first, and allowed no PC points in the second, giving them a 53-4 lead at halftime.

The Lady Plainsmen continued to fight despite the deficit and put up three points in the third and five more in the fourth for 11. However, by the end of the game, the Lady Tigers had racked up 64 for the win.

Next action

The Perkins County Booster Tournament will be held Thursday and Friday and the girls are set to play Wallace first at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

“The girls have responded well to very talented teams, and we continue to be proud of the resiliency of our girls and their willingness and determination to get better from game to game. We hope that the little successes we are seeing in each game cumulate to a win during the holiday tournament,” Geitz said.

An anonymous donor has stepped forward in honor of Alan Poppe and will pay the admission for any PC students who would like to attend the Holiday Tournament.
