Lady Plainsmen season ends in double overtime heartbreak at subdistricts

A double-overtime loss ended the season for the Lady Plainsmen at subdistricts in Hershey on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

The Lady Plainsmen fell to the Lady Tigers for the second time this season—this time the final score was 51-45.

The competition was matched through the first period and the score sat at a 9-9 tie going into the second.

The Lady Plainsmen outscored the Tigers 6-5 in the second, giving them a one-point advantage at halftime, 15-14.

Paxton revved up in the third and put up 14 points, while holding the PC girls to six.

It was the fourth quarter that saw the Lady Plainsmen determination in full swing as the girls picked up their offense to add 17 points.

The defense held the Lady Tigers to 10 for 38-38 tie game at the fourth quarter buzzer.

Both teams continued the fight in overtime with each team putting up a pair to send the game into double overtime at 40-40.

Paxton managed to add 11 to their side of the board while holding the Lady Plainsmen to just five, giving them the 51-45 victory.

“I would say that our girls have improved ten-fold since the beginning of the season,” Coach Katie Geitz said on the season.

“We are very excited about the fact that we will be getting 14 out of 15 girls back next year, but will miss our senior leader greatly. Hailey has done a wonderful job of stepping into a role she may not have expected to step into.

“We were very lucky to have the team we did this year, as the girls were willing to work hard and learn from every situation,” she added.

The loss against Paxton ended the girls’ season with a 4-18 record.
