Lady Plainsmen split subdistrict games, finish season 15–8

The Perkins County Plainsmen girls basketball team battled through postseason play last week, earning a first-round subdistrict win before falling in the subdistrict finals to close the 2025–26 season with a 15–8 overall record.

Kimball

Perkins County opened subdistrict action on Monday, February 17, with a hard-fought 51–45 victory over the Kimball Longhorns. The game remained tight throughout, with the teams tied 10–10 after the first quarter. Kimball edged ahead at halftime, leading 23–22, after outscoring the Plainsmen 13–12 in the second quarter.

Both teams matched each other again in the third quarter, scoring 12 points apiece, leaving the Plainsmen trailing by one heading into the final period. Perkins County delivered its strongest quarter of the night when it mattered most, outscoring the Longhorns 17–10 in the fourth to secure the six-point win.

Madison Potts led all scorers with 25 points, providing a spark on the offensive end. Addison York controlled the boards with 13 rebounds, while Hannah Bishop added five assists.

Head coach Deanne Bishop credited her team’s composure late in the game.“When you get to the postseason, you can pretty much throw everyone’s records out the window. Each game will be tough,” Bishop said. “Kimball definitely brought their best effort, and we trailed by one point headed into the fourth quarter. Credit our schedule for putting us in close games before then — the girls knew how to handle themselves down the stretch. We ramped up our rebounding efforts and played smart with the ball. The girls did a good job of finding the open shooters.”

Valentine

Following a weather postponement, Perkins County advanced to the subdistrict finals against the Valentine on Saturday, February 21. The Plainsmen stayed competitive early but ultimately fell 62–47.

Ella Holman led Perkins County with 14 points, while York continued her strong postseason play with 10 rebounds.

“We were right in it at half, but then made too many mental mistakes in the second half and didn’t always handle their pressure well,” Bishop said. “That led to increased turnovers and easy layups for them. That said, I was proud of the way our girls battled the entire game. Valentine was the better team on this day and deserved the win.”

With the split in subdistrict play, the Plainsmen wrapped up the season with a 15–8 record, highlighted by strong postseason competitiveness and growth heading into the offseason.
