Lady Wildcats fall in subdistrict opener

Wallace’s Lady Wildcats couldn’t repeat their RPAC victory over the Wauneta-Palisade Broncos, falling in the first round of the D2-8 subdistrict 33-29.

The Lady Wildcats held the Broncs scoreless in the first quarter while posting five-point lead after one. 

WP scored a pair of three-pointers to lead 6-5 before the Lady Wildcat rallied for seven. Mariah Gardner canned a three and Chevi McClintock and Quinn Koop each added baskets for a 12-9 halftime lead.

After combining to make one out of six free throws in the first half, both teams made it to the free throw line often in the second half.

In the third, five of the Lady Wildcats’ seven points came from the line as both teams went into the fourth tied at 19. 

Wallace quickly took the lead with a three-pointer by Gardner before a pair of baskets by the Broncos have them the lead for good.

Garnder added a pair of free throws and another trey, along with a deuce by Koop. However, the Broncs were able to put up 14 in the final quarter for the win.

Gardner led the team with 11, followed by Sydney Pelster with seven.

The Lady Wildcats end the season with an 8-14 record.
