Thanks to a 60-44 win over Wauneta-Palisade, Shannon Messersmith’s Lady Wildcats assured themselves a spot in Championship Saturday of the Republican Plains Activities Conference tournament.

After an opening round win against Paxton, the Lady Wildcats came back from a 11-point halftime deficit to defeat the Broncs in the second round Monday, Jan. 23.

That assured the Wildcats they would represent the west division in the RPAC’s Championship Saturday at the McCook Community College event Center.

In the west division finals Thursday, Jan. 26, the Wildcats found themselves facing off against undefeated and second-ranked Dundy County Stratton.

The Wildcats fell by 26 but Messersmith felt his team played much better than in their 34-point loss to DCS Jan. 17.

That sent the Wildcats into the third-fourth place game against Alma Saturday.
