Longhorns and Swedes sweep Lady Plainsmen

Last week saw the Lady Plainsmen travel to Kimball for a game against the Longhorns on Friday, Dec. 7, before they hosted the Gothenburg Lady Swedes on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Two losses leave the PC girls 0-3 this season.

Kimball

The Kimball Lady Longhorns started off the scoring with a good shot from the free-throw line and followed it up with one in the bucket for 3. 

PC’s Dani Burge drew a foul and hit one free throw, and added one in the bucket tying up the game. 

Kiara Schulze tipped the scoreboard in the Lady Plainsmen’s favor with two good free-throws, putting PC up 5-3.

Kimball was quick to take the lead back with six more points before the second. 

The Lady Longhorns maintained the lead through the second, despite the effort of the Lady Plainsmen. 

At halftime, Kimball was in the lead 23-11.

The third saw six points from Burge and a triple from freshman Meghan Bishop, however, going into the fourth, Kimball was still up 49-20.

Kimball went on a 14-point run in the fourth and by the end of the game, they had won 65-29.

Burge was the top scorer of the game with 11 points, followed by Bishop who had two triples for six. Rylee Huff had four points and Samantha Patrick, Schulze, Hailey Snyder and Autumn Anderson all contributed two each.

Full stats for the game against Kimball were not available at press time.

Gothenburg

 The Lady Plainsmen hosted the Gothenburg Lady Swedes on Saturday, Dec. 8.

Gothenburg ran the scoreboard up to nine before PC was able to answer with a shot from Patrick in the first. Another seven points by the Swedes put them ahead 16-2 at the end of the first. 

Despite two shots from Hannah Kempf in the second, Gothenburg was dominating the game with a 45-5 lead at halftime. 

Patrick added a point from the free-throw line and a field goal, as did Burge, giving PC 10 at the end of the third, down by 44.

Gothenburg added six in the final quarter beating the Lady Plainsmen 60-10. 

Patrick was the top scorer of the game with five points, Kempf followed with three points, and Burge had two. 

Full stats for the Gothenburg game were not available. 

Next action

The Lady Plainsmen traveled to Paxton on Tuesday, Dec. 11, and will host Ogallala on Friday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m.

Saturday they will head to Dundy County-Stratton for a 5:30 p.m. game.
