By a fraction of a second, Perkins County sophomore Mason McGreer won the Ogallala cross country invitational on Thursday, Sept. 22, beating Ogallala stand-out Jarrett Miles, with a time of 16:27, setting a new school record. The 5,000 meter record was previously held by Caden Waitley in 2018 (16:57).

“Mason ran lights out,” said Head Coach Seth Burge, “proving he can run with Jarrett Miles.”

McGreer was in second as he turned the last corner and by the finish line was neck and neck with Jarrett, Burge said.

For the other Perkins County boys Brock Tines ran a great race, Burge said, setting a new personal record with a time of 19:47.  Brient Wood  also set a season record time at Ogallala with a time of 21:48.

Girls Results

On the girls side, Meredith Gloy, Brenna Colglazier, and Maggie Fisher all set personal records at Ogallala. Gloy finished with a 22:00.97, Brenna Colglazier finished with a time  of 24:27.94, Maggie Fisher with a time of 26:18.99

“We saw a lot of class B and C competition this week, so it is tough to get in the medals even with these record times. It was a good day for a good race,” Burge said. “The cooler and wet conditions proved to be beneficial for our teams during the day.”

The Plainsmen’s next meet was Monday, Sept. 26 at UNK. Results will be in next week’s edition.
